Knee

The knee is generally described as a relatively simple hinge-like joint with the patella considered a large adjacent sesamoid structure. For any number of reasons, the knee is in fact bicondylar in shape that, along with the presence of two menisci, creates kinematic behaviours far more similar to a modified ovid than to any simple hinge joint. Additionally, the superior tibiofibular joint, sometimes comically referred to as the "forgotten knee joint", is just that...typically forgotten despite its importance in lateral knee stability, muscle attachment, and impact on conjunct rotation mechanics.
